Seville, Highly Recommended

Well, I have heard it said that the people of Seville are unfriendly… crumbs, someone must have been trying to keep a good thing to themselves!

We only stayed 2 nights in Seville, which wasn’t enough! The top things that we liked about Seville:

1) Wonderfully friendly people. Everyone was very welcoming. Even the girl who robbed us was friendly!

2) The Walking Tour was fab. Run by Sevilla Walking Tours, our guide Concepcion was just fantastic.

3) The  Alcazar, which was is a really special mix of Moorish and Christian architecture, built in part by the Christian King Peter I.  Sevilla Walking Tours do a tour of this too, and I wish that this had been possible during my stay.

4) The Cathedral and Giralda (joining Tower) which, although I’m not into churchy type things at all, was totally gobsmacking. If nothing else, entrance offers the opportunity to climb to the top of Giralda which affords wonderful views of the city. Plus Christopher Columbus’ pretty awesome looking tomb is in the cathedral.

5) The Amadeus Hotel, which for 65 Euros (off season rates) a night was a complete delight. The room was fantastic, and the staff a delight.

Also of note was the ‘Plaza de Toros de la Real Maestranza’, Seville’s Bull Ring, which was worth a visit. We went for a tour, which let down somewhat by a half hearted guide.

There are so many more things I would like to have done in Seville including:
1) The Archivo de Indias
2) Flamenco (still haven’t managed to see any in Andalucia!)
3) Triana barrio
4) Perhaps even an intensive Spanish course? Although I’ve been warned that the accent here isn’t great, I recon its got to be a decent place to hang out for 4 weeks.

The only thing that I regret about Seville was not staying longer, and another trip is on the wish list.
