Lorca Castle
Lynne and I visited Lorca Castle last week. Known as ‘La Fortaleza del Sol’ (or ‘Fortess of the Sun’ in English), it was first built during the 13th century, and then often developed. For centuries it marked the border between the Christian and Muslim kingdoms.
Many other fortified strongholds were built in the area. Together they would keep watch over the area, communicating between eachother by using smoke signals, and providing shelter for the surrounding rural population. Near by strongholds include Castillo de Puentes, Castillo de Xiquena, and Castillo Aguaderas.
Lorca Castle was filled with very good dislays and even actors in costume! Highly recommended.
